Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support (NAVSUP WSS) recently participated in Operation Gratitude, an annual event designated to provide currently deployed troops with care packages.
NAVSUP WSS, in conjunction with the Philadelphia Naval Recruiting District, DLA Troop Support, Naval Support Activity Philadelphia, Army Recruiting Command Philadelphia, Defense Contract Management Agency Philadelphia, and NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center Norfolk, partnered with the Philadelphia Sports Congress to collect donated care package items as well as holiday greeting cards to send to troops serving overseas.
“Operation Gratitude continues to be a great opportunity each year for NAVSUP WSS and the city of Philadelphia to thank deployed service members, first responders and their families,” said Rear Adm. David Pimpo, Commander, NAVSUP WSS. “I am proud of the accomplishments of the military team for leading the charge and continuing to make this important event an unquestionable success.”
This year, more than $4,000 was collected in addition to five pallets weighing a total of 2,585 pounds, which included books, clothing, food, and toiletries.
Across the country, Operation Gratitude annually sends more than 150,000 care packages filled with food, hygiene products, entertainment and handmade items, in addition to personal letters of support to Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines deployed overseas, veterans, wounded warriors, first responders and military children, in efforts to lift morale and put smiles on the faces of all recipients.
