Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management and Comptroller) The Honorable Susan J. Rabern announced recently Karen Fenstermacher’s selection as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Financial Operations (DASN FO). Fenstermacher formerly served as Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Assistant Commander for Financial Management and Comptroller.
Fenstermacher’s previous assignments include Assistant Commander for Enterprise Business Operations; Assistant Commander for Corporate Operations; Command Information Officer; and Director of the Pilot Funding and Project Management Group in the Department of Navy eBusiness Operations Office. In addition, she was a Senior Financial Analyst and Director of the Cash Management Division where she was responsible for the pricing and cash solvency for a $6 billion annual budget.
Fenstermacher joined the federal government as a Financial Management Trainee after graduating from college. She spent the first 10 years of her career in the Washington area with tenures as a financial systems analyst with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Comptroller; the Senate Armed Services Committee staff as a Financial Analyst; and the Navy Budget Office as a Program Manager.
Fenstermacher received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 2000. In October of 2002, Fenstermacher was named Naval Supply Systems Command Executive of the Year. She was selected to the Senior Executive Service in 2004 and was recipient of the Presidential Rank Award in 2011. She holds professional memberships in the American Society for Military Comptrollers and the Acquisition Professional Community and has Level III DAWIA certification in IT.
