Retired Cmdr. Robert (Skip) William Zeiler III, 67, passed away January 25. After graduating high school he attended the Illinois Institute of Technology, receiving an undergraduate degree in Chemistry. While at IIT, he enlisted into the ROTC program and became an officer in the United States Navy. He was deployed to the Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam in 1969, ultimately culminating in a 20-year military career that saw him retire as a Commander. He enjoyed the opportunity to see far away lands including a tour of duty at Rodman Naval Base in the Panama Canal in 1979, was given repeated meritorious service commendations and received countless accolades from his superiors for his work performance. After retirement from the military in 1988, he began his post-military career in manufacturing, being promoted to the role of CEO for several companies. He was also the Chairman of the Board for the California Council of Excellence. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, three sons, nine grandchildren, and his sister.
