Retired Captain Roy O. Girod, SC, USN

Retired Captain Roy O. Girod, SC, USN, 83, passed away on September 25. Capt. Girod retired in June 1981 with 32 years of active service after serving as Director, Office of Planning and Management, Defense Construction Supply Center, Columbus, OH. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1953 and his Master’s Degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1967. Duty stations also included: Supply Officer, USS Lake Champlain (CVA 39); Supply Officer, USS Coates (DE 685); Supply Officer, Flag Administration Unit, Office of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, Norfolk, VA; Naval Supply Depot, Guam; Supply Officer, USS Charles F. Adams (DDG 2); Bureau of Weapons and Naval Ordnance Systems Command, Washington, D.C.; Director, Fleet Assistance Group, Atlantic, NSC, Norfolk, Virginia; Supply Officer, USS Wasp (CVS 18); Naval Recruiting Command, Washington, D.C.; and Data Systems Automation Office, Columbus, Ohio. After retirement he served on the NWCA, as President of the Columbus chapter of the Navy League of the United States and on the National Board, multiple terms on the Board of Directors of the USNA Alumni Association and supported the Navy locally in every way possible through his involvement with Sea Cadets, NLUS and the Naval Academy Parents Club of Columbus Ohio (NAPCCO). He is survived by his brother, two sons, and two daughters.
