Xefteris retired after 31 years of active service while serving as deputy commander, Military Traffic Management and Terminal Service, Washington, District of Columbia. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943, was commissioned an ensign in the Supply Corps of the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1946, and transferred to the active Navy in 1947. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, and his master’s degree from Stanford University.
