Center for Service Support (CSS) Learning Site Norfolk, Va., piloted the latest generation of automated administrative and record-keeping software for Navy food service personnel in the Food Service Administration Course held there in early March.
The Food Service Management 3.0 (FSM 3.0) system provides Food Service officers and Culinary Specialists (CS), serving both afloat and ashore, with an automated method of ordering food, creating recipes and menus, processing receipts, tracking inventory, and other functions associated with the daily operation of a general mess or dining facility.

The Navy Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Business Systems Center (BSC) -- as part of the Distance Support initiative -- developed the FSM 3.0 software with technical guidance provided by NAVSUP.
CS Community Training Manager, CSC(SS) Fred Butts, explained that FSM 3.0 replaced the standalone disk operating system program that has been phased out in the CS community.
"The curriculum for the Food Service Administration and Culinary Specialist Records Keeping (CSRK) are in the final phases of revision," CSC Butts said. "The curriculum needed to be refreshed to keep up with the constant changes of technology."
Following the CSS Learning Site Norfolk pilot, CSS Learning Site San Diego will begin their pilot of the new software May 20.
CSS and its seven learning sites provide Sailors with the knowledge and skills required to support the fleet's warfighting mission. Each year, the nearly 250 staff and faculty members of CSS deliver training to more than 10,000 personnel serving in the Navy's administration, logistics and media communities.
