CNO’s Design for Maintaining Maritime Superiority

In January, Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. John Richardson released his strategic guidance, A Design for Maintaining Maritime Superiority. This document will guide Navy behavior and investments both now and into the future. Adm. Richardson encourages us to understand our history, learn from mistakes, and press ahead with our best efforts. He challenges leaders to look beyond the players and consider how the nature of the game has
changed and will continue to change in the future. We must use integrity, accountability, initiative, and toughness to guide us to success in supporting the mission. CNO has set four lines of effort that when executed together, will help us move forward— strengthen naval power at and from sea, achieve high velocity learning at every level, strengthen our Navy team for the future, and expand and strengthen our network of partners.

“We will remain the world’s finest Navy only if we all fight each and every minute to get better.”
