Retired Capt. Omer “Lou” Johnson, SC, USN

85, passed away. Capt. Johnson retired with 42 years of active service while serving as Commander, Defense Fuel Region, Pacific, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Capt. Johnson enlisted in the Navy in 1947 and following commissioning as an Ensign in 1958, he served in various assignments afloat, ashore and abroad in the areas of logistics planning. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Duty stations included: Defense Fuel Supply Center, Alexandria, Virginia; USS Grand Canyon (AR 28); Staff, Commander, Naval Logistics Command, U.S. Pacific Fleet; Staff, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Philippines; Naval Supply Center, Newport, Rhode Island; Naval Supply Systems Command Headquarters, Washington, DC; Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico; and Joint U.S. Military Assistance Group, Thailand. Decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal the latter being awarded for his efforts in continuing continued fuel support of the fleet during the 1973-1974 embargo while serving as fuels officer on the staff of the Pacific Fleet Commander.
