On June 17, Capt. Michael A. McCartney, commanding officer, USS Antietam (CG 54), the Air Defense Commander for Battle Force Seventh Fleet and Mr. Hugo Llorens, consul general of the United States, hosted a Big Top Reception. The event took place on the flight deck and in the hangar bay while moored at Woolloomooloo, Sydney, Australia. The event provided an opportunity for a warfighter exchange between Australian military forces and dignitaries and their U.S. counterparts. It also provided an opportunity for them to tour a U.S. Navy guided missile cruiser. USS Antietam food pic

The reception menu consisted of: lumpia, chicken kabobs, chicken wings, ribeye steak carving station, chicken wraps, shrimp cocktail, chicken curry, fruit and veggie platters, and a U.S./Australia cake. “Mighty USS Antietam’s supply department did an impressive job in coordinating such an event only six hours after pulling into port,” commented Capt. McCartney.

The big top event was a great opportunity for supply department Sailors to show their versatility to Commander Surface Force Royal Australian Navy Commodore Goddard, U.S. Consul General Mr. Hugo Llorens, and the Premier of the New South Wales Parliament, the Honorable Michael Baird, among others. The guests expressed their astonishment over the food quality and variety, food carvings, and overall event execution in such a short time after USS Antietam’s arrival in Sydney.
